FAQ

-

Is gingivitis painful?

Normally it is not painful although you can feel some irritation of your gums, sometimes you will notice bleeding while brushing your teeth.

How do I know that I have it?

You can check for these signs: visible plaque and stains on your teeth on any surface (usually on the inside of lower incisors or on the outside of upper molars); redness and swelling of your gums. When the gums are healthy they have pinkish color and are well adapted to the surface of your teeth. Anyways the best way to know if you have it - is to see your dentist.

Is the treatment painful?

Oral hygiene is not painful, but it can be unpleasant because ultrasound is used to remove the plaque. Ultrasound creates some vibration. If your teeth are sensitive due to different reasons, local anesthesia might be necessary just to avoid sensitivity.

PERIODONTITIS

-

Inflammation of periodontal tissues (gums, ligaments, bone) caused by bacterial infection.

WHAT IS PERIODONTITIS?

-

Also known as periodontal disease, periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages not only the soft tissue but also destroys the bone that supports the teeth. The disease can be absolutely painless and usually is diagnosed with these symptoms: swollen, red gums that bleed easily, bad breath, plaque around the teeth, loose teeth.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?

-

The main aim of the treatment is disinfection - removal of all the plaque (bacteria) and tartar from around the teeth above and under the gums. This treatment is always performed with anesthesia, because the plaque can be found deep under the gums and removal can be painful. Sometimes several sessions of disinfection are necessary, depending on the level of the disease. The treatment and regular periodontal maintenance after that has a very important role in saving your teeth, because lost bone structure never recovers. The only way to avoid teeth loss is to stop periodontal disease in time.
